Enjoy the benefits of lavender in your garden

Essential Lavender

Lavender is one of the lowest maintenance plants you can grow and also one of the most beneficial.

Habitat

Lavender loves sun and heat, it needs at least 6 hours of full sun every day ? 8 hours is even better. Lavender is very happy even in dry, or nearly dry conditions. Indoors: keep it in a sunny spot and turn the plant towards the light; so that it grows evenly.

Ground

Sandy soil is also something lavender loves. Fill the bottom of the vase with crushed stone, gravel, pebbles, etc. Mix some potting soil with sand and 2 parts soil to 1 part sand. This works for seeds too, however, germination takes longer.

watering

Do not overwater the lavender. Let dry between waterings. However, don't let it dry to the point of wilting. Make sure the soil is dry to the touch before watering again. Avoid: soaking in water

pruning

Cut the flower stems right at the base after the flowers open. Doing this regularly will promote more growth and less need for heavy pruning. Then you can dry the lavender and use it all year round in flavoring sachets.
